A thirty year history led us to the spring of 2008, when real estate market conditions were deteriorating rapidly under the economic pressure of unsustainable growth. Most of our agents were experiencing something new: a deep economic recession.

I had just returned from living nearly two years in relative isolation high in the Sierra Nevada without electricity, phones and the like, followed by a few months in Seattle. I drove to San Diego, not to work, but to play music at a Julian restaurant. I am still here.

In an attempt to help our agents understand what I thought it would take to sustain our real estate practice through the emerging recession, I used the analogy of the effort and energy required to keep a cow alive and productive. (I live on a ranch.) I am not sure how effectively the metaphor of sustaining a cow conveyed my message, but our staff was amused enough to adopt the metaphor as a mantra in our united effort to create a sustainable economy within our office. As such, the Sustainable Cow Project began on October 3rd, 2008, evidenced by the murals painted on the exterior walls of our main office building in Santa Ysabel, California.

Each member of our staff is responsible for a specialized function in the process of originating, servicing, and closing real estate transactions. This cooperative effort offers our clients a level of communication and service that is very rare in the real estate industry.
